Do you know your body type? Michelle suggests taking this body type quiz to guide some of your choices when it comes to picking out styles and cuts.
Tips for Styling Your Shape
If you've got an idea of what kind of body type or shape that you have, now you can start looking into the ways that accentuate your best assets! Here are a few tips melded from Michelle and a Stitch Fix style guide.
Pear Shaped (Triangle)
Play with proportions that elongate the body. Statement tops, highlight your back, waist or neckline. Plunging V-necks, cowl necks, bell sleeves -- all pieces that bring some fun to the top half of the body. When looking for dresses, look to belted styles, dramatic sleeves, A-line and maxi.
Hourglass Shaped (Curvy)
The key with an hourglass or curvy shaped body is to accentuate the waist -- find piece that hit you in all the right places. This is where fitted items, like wrap tops, peplum blouses and V-neck items can be come into play. Beware of boxy styles that will hide definition.
Apple Shaped (Inverted Triangle)
Power pieces are things like A-line silhouettes, flow tunics, and V-neck anything! If you're struggling on jeans, reach for skinny styles or jeggings to accentuate your legs -- classic trouser fits, cropped, ankle.
Athletic Shaped (Rectangle or Straight)
It's important to keep the volume on top or bottom -- meaning if you go for an oversized top shape, keep your bottom skinny or structured. Or, more form fitting tops should be paired with breezy, more oversized pant styles for balance. Draw attention to muscular arms and shoulders with halter tops, racerback styles or strapless tops.
