GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Nothing feels more like spring than a trip to the Frederick Meijer Gardens and Sculpture Park to see the butterflies inside the Lena Meijer Tropical Conservatory.
This is the 25th year of the Fred & Dorothy Fichter Butterflies Are Blooming. Did you know it's the largest temporary tropical butterfly exhibition in the nation? There are 60 colorful species of butterflies and moths that journey from regions in Costa Rica, Ecuador, the Philippines and Kenya. The conservatory is five stories tall and 15,000 square feet.
The exhibition opens March 1 and runs through April 30. It is expected to attract 185,000 visitors from all over the world.
In addition to the watching the butterflies bloom and fly through the conservatory you can also enjoy the original Butterfly Ballet. It was written by a staff member at the Meijer Gardens, and is told through the eyes of a newly emerged butterfly. With colorful costumes, spectacular music the ballet is performed by members of the Grand Rapids Ballet Junior Company.

Fee: $5 members/$8 non-members; Free for ages 2 years and younger. Regular fees apply for general admission to Meijer Gardens.
