GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Between the stay at home order, schools closing for the remainder of the school year, sports canceled and lack of social time with friends the mental health of our youth is a serious concern.
As a parent, sometimes you know your teens can be hard to talk to but there is a place that offers advice for parents. Engaged Outreach is a nonprofit focused on mental health in Michigan schools.
Here are some tips from Executive Director Matthew Anderson:
- Ask your child, “what do you think is the worst thing that could happen is”
- Try to stay consistent
- Have family meals
- Keep Busy
- Be mindful about what you’re thinking about and how you’re thinking about
- Corporate with the inevitable
- Use this time to focus on mental health for you and your loved ones
