GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — The latest installment in the "Jumanji" movie series is coming in December and Hospice of Michigan is again proud to host a special screening of this new movie – all to benefit Jo Elyn Nyman Anchors Programs for Children.
Hospice of Michigan enjoys a long-time friendship with world-renowned children’s author and illustrator, and Grand Rapids native, Chris Van Allsburg and his wife, Lisa. The "Jumanji: The Next Level" screening follows the highly successful Michigan movie premieres of "The Polar Express" in 2004 and "Zathura" in 2005, both based on Van Allsburg books, which raised more than $1.5 million for end-of-life pediatric care.
The film premiere will be a family-friendly event and great opportunity to show our children the value of supporting others, especially during the holiday season.
Chris and Lisa Van Allsburg are slated to attend the fundraiser, as they have always done. Children and families who have been, or are currently being served by the Anchors Programs for Children will be invited guests. Anchors Programs for Children offers a full continuum of pediatric services to support families facing a life limiting illness. It is the only statewide pediatric hospice and a supportive care program to serve families with specially trained staff that provide medical, social, spiritual and emotional support to help navigate difficult situations. Since the inception of the pediatric programs, Anchors has served thousands of children and families across Michigan.
The special screening is Sunday, Dec. 8 at 3 p.m. at Grand Rapids Celebration! Cinema North. Tickets are $50 per person. Each ticket includes popcorn and soda and an afterglow reception. Tickets are available a www.Jumanji4Anchors.com or at www.hom.org. Sponsorship are available by visiting www.Jumanji4Anchors.com.
"Jumanji: The Next Level" is a another new adventure, directed by Michigan native Jake Kasdan and featuring Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Jack Black, Kevin Hart, Nick Jonas and Karen Gillan. Joining the cast are Awkwafina, Danny DeVito, and Danny Glover. The movie is adapted from the 1981 children’s book written and illustrated by Caldecott author Chris Van Allsburg.
In this next installment, which hits theaters on Dec. 13, the story takes grandfathers (Danny DeVito and Danny Glover) inside the world of Jumanji for the ultimate role-switching journey. However, they’re thrust into the game as Dwayne and Kevin’s avatars, which makes for a whole new comical ride, as the players will have to brave different landscapes and unknown areas including deserts, snow-covered mountains, and more in order to escape the unpredictable game.
