New cannabis business with restaurant and bar coming to Muskegon

The 11,000-square-foot building will have a dispensary, restaurant, bar and lounge for customers.

MUSKEGON, Mich. — A cannabis hospitality business is coming to Muskegon next year. The new entertainment center is called Fields Cannary. The idea was inspired by wineries and breweries that include both bars and restaurants.

"Our motto is not to try to get you to come here and leave quickly, it's to come here and stay as long as possible," said co-founder and CEO of Fields Cannary, Edgar Ramon.

Ramon said his new business won't be like your average Cannabis store.

"If you think about a brewery or a winery or distillery, Cannary mimics those, but it's for the cannabis consumer," said Ramon.

Ramon is turning the former Sons of Norway Hall in Muskegon into a cannabis entertainment center. Located on 420 Harvey Street in Muskegon, the 11,000-square-foot building will have a dispensary, restaurant, bar and lounge for customers. It will also host live performances and have a greenhouse to support cannabis cultivation.

"We decided, when coming and looking at Muskegon and Michigan and looking at the cannabis industry, that we wanted to do something different, something unique, actually something that we believe that the cannabis consumer deserves. We're not just a cannabis company. We like to think of ourselves more of a hospitality company or a destination spot," Ramon.

The business was set to open in the summer of 2023 but due to weather issues and reconstruction, Ramon is hoping to open in 2025 for a 4-20 (April 20) marijuana-day grand opening. Funding for Fields Cannary came from loans and investors. Ramon said he can't wait to share his new cannabis experience with the community.

"We're really doing it for that cannabis consumer because it's what they deserve. Again, I don't know of a better place, or I haven't found a better place than the city of Muskegon to do this in with all the transformation that they have going on," said Ramon.

Ramon said customers must be 21 and older to enter the space.
