GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — COVID SURGE -
The upward trend continues in the state's covid-19 case count. Today the state reported 17-thousand-980 new cases over a two-day period. That's an average of nearly 9-thousand cases a day! also we're told there were 128 additional deaths-- more than half were discovered during a vital records review. Also today... the state health department issued a "mask advisory."
They are strongly encouraging people to wear masks indoors no matter their vaccine status. Doctors at Spectrum Health say right now about 70-percent of Michiganders are vaccinated... but say it needs to be above 90-percent to reach herd immunity.
BOOSTERS FOR ALL - The C-D-C's independent advisory committee signed off on boosters for all adults earlier this afternoon. Now it's in the hands of the C-D-C director. Boosters were given the green light by the F-D-A this morning. At the moment -- only older people, those with health issues, and those who work in high-risk fields are eligible.
NOT GUILTY on all counts.
That was the decision handed down today by the jury in the Kyle Rittenhouse trial. Rittenhouse was charged with shooting three men, and killing two of them. It happened in August 2020 during violent protests in Kenosha, Wisconsin. He claimed he acted in self-defense. Rittenhouse started crying and fell to the ground after the verdict was announced.
THANKSGIVING FORECAST -
The countdown is on to Thanksgiving, meaning travel is becoming a forefront for Michiganders as they prepare for the holiday. In true West Michigan fashion, the chance for impactful winter weather is in the forecast leading up to Turkey Day!
Quiet weather, for November standards, will be commonplace through Saturday across the entire state of Michigan. Travel will not be impacted as daytime temperatures settle into the low to middle 40s, with little precipitation chances.
