NORTH MUSKEGON, Mich. — Two siblings from the North Muskegon area are making a name for themselves.

Abbie and Jerry Wiegers went from a small school in West Michigan to being some of the top-level recruits for college track and field in their area.

The siblings worked hard their whole lives to make their dreams a reality and they’re just getting started.

"Him and I have been running track like ever since we were little kids and we have a natural ability that we didn't know would get us this far," said Abbie.

The siblings are two of three triplets, but that's not the only unique thing about them.

"We didn't really know what we were capable of until we hit high school and we stood out from everybody in our conference, like, we just zoomed past them. Jerry too, Jerry zoomed past everybody. It doesn't matter, like, what he'd eat," said Abbie.

The siblings from North Muskegon are track runners who've broken high school records and are making a name for themselves every time they step on the field.

Jerry won two state titles in 2023 and he said his accomplishments come from hard work

"Just because a goal is big doesn't mean you can't achieve it. You just got to put the work in. You got to be dedicated and you also have to have faith in yourself, because the work is not gonna get done for you got to do it by yourself," said Jerry Wiegers.

Abbie attends Michigan State University and Jerry goes to Ferris State University. The college freshmen never thought their passion for running could get them this far.

"Especially for North Muskegon, you don't really see, especially in track, athletes going to run track in college. It's very rare," Abbie said. "We didn't think we were actually going to go anywhere for track and field. Then we skyrocketed our junior year and we dedicated our summers to really training and putting that work in. When we hit our conference meet at Holton, that's where we really stood out. We actually started to get offers" Abbie Wiegers.

As far as what's next for Abbie and Jerry? They said the sky is the limit and their goal is to one day make it to the Olympics.

"If I get fast enough and train hard enough, I can definitely take a look at the trials, willing to give me a shot and for our country," Jerry said.

"You have to keep going, since there's two of us with the same end goal, and us going to colleges like this that are essentially really good, then they're going to help us get there," Abbie said. "We can also help push each other as well."
