REMUS, Mich. — Two Michigan artists have found a way to share their lifetimes of artwork in a way that feels like home.
Karen Coville and Dan Lee display their work at the aptly named gallery "Two Artists in a Barn" in Remus, a mile north of the M20 and M66 intersection.
While it may seem out of the way, it's become a destination for road trippers headed up north for hunting, camping, or color tours.
"The guy said, 'now we plan to stop in here'," Coville said. "This is their destination first, and then they go on their color tour."
Saturday is the last day of this year's event, in which they are celebrating 10 years of their unconventional gallery.
Lee's work is mainly of nature. He says that each one reminds him of a part of his life in Michigan.
“I've got a story about every picture," Lee said. "How much time do you have?"
While they add to their collection every year, Coville says she always makes sure to do a Michigan picture, inspired by her experiences in the state that year.
"I have a cousin who lives on Saginaw Bay," Coville said. "When the fires in Canada were out, that's the sunset from her watching out her place."
That picture always sells. However, she says it's not about the profit.
"We just do this for our enjoyment and hope that we cause other people to be happy for a while," Coville said.
They're open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday.
