Allegan couple hopes to raise money for their wedding doing odd jobs

To help cover traveling expenses for their loved ones to come to their wedding, an Allegan County couple is hoping to raise money by doing odd jobs.

ALLEGAN COUNTY, Mich. — An Allegan County couple is trying to raise money for their wedding right around the corner—but they're not just asking for cash, they're willing to work for it.

"I proposed to her in front of the whole church," said fiancé Edward Meekhof.

Love is in the air for one Allegan County couple who met in March of last year. Last September, Teagen Nielsen and Edward Meekhof got engaged. Now, just a few days away from saying "I do" at the altar, they're willing to do almost anything to make their dream wedding a reality.

"The whole wedding's already paid for. We're trying to gather money because I just lost my job, and trying to help for the trip down there and getting back," said Meekhof.

Nielsen and Meekhof are hoping to tie the knot surrounded by their family and friends. Because Nielsen's grandma is sick and needs assistance to travel, the couple is offering to collect scrap cans, do odd jobs or even bake to gather money for traveling expenses.

"I just wanted to, she's my grandma, but I just wanted to make sure she was able to see at least one of her grandkids get married. I feel like having her travel with us would be really important," said Nielsen.

The wedding is set for Sept. 10 down in Tennessee, exactly one year after the couple got engaged. They said they're not asking for a handout and they're willing to work for the money through Sept. 6.

"Done a lot of scrapping so far. I've scrapped probably over 2,500 pounds already," Meekhof said.

"I do childcare at my house, so like anybody who needs like childcare, like I do that because I do prefer working with kids," said Nielsen.

The couple said any amount helps and you can find their contact information here.
