Berrien County Sheriff's Office mourns Mounted Division horse Shazam

Shazam served his community for 18 years until he died at 29 years old.

BERRIEN COUNTY, Mich. — Shazam, a Berrien County Sheriff's Department Mounted Division horse, has died after 18 years of service. 

Shazam was ridden by Reserve Deputy Shannon Utt and was best known by his community for leading the unit in parades. 

The sheriff's office said Shazam had a gentle personality and was a trusted mount for Deputy Utt, never encountering a situation on duty that he didn't handle with grace and poise. 

He served his community until he died at 29 years old. 

The office said he was an "exceptional horse" and will be "deeply missed" by everyone who knew him.
