Bargains on bud | dispensaries busy with shoppers for 'Green Wednesday' deals

Hundreds flock to cannabis dispensaries on Thanksgiving Eve. Green Wednesday is the second biggest day for cannabis sales after 4/20.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Thanksgiving Eve is also known as 'Green Wednesday' in the marijuana industry. It’s one of the busiest times of year for people to score deals on cannabis products before the holidays.

It's the Cannabis Industries version of Black Friday and store employees said bargains on "bud" were flying off the shelves.

"I've definitely seen over 100 customers come in. Yeah, it's been packed," said Trever Jonson, Budtender at Pharmhouse Wellness Weed Dispensary Grand Rapids.

Just one day before Thanksgiving, local dispensaries in the area were filled with customers.

"It's like our Black Friday. Everybody's coming in. We got all sorts of deals going on. All of our vendors have something going on. So lots of really cool stuff, and business has been pumping all day long," said Jonson

Parking lots were full of customers as many celebrated Green Wednesday by heading to cannabis dispensaries. Besides shoppers taking advantage of the bargains, Cookies Grand Rapids Dispensary store manager, Russell Schonmaker said Green Wednesday helps boost his business.

"They see that we have the good deals, they're going to want to come back, because they tried that, like, buy one, get one things. And they really like the buy one, get one. So they like, might as well come back and buy both of them at normal price," said Schoonmaker.

Jonson said cannabis consumption also helps reduce anxiety for people before the holidays.

"Everyone's hanging out with their relatives, and it can be tough for some folks to get through the holidays. It's really helping cheer them up throughout the hard times that are going on," said Jonson.

The Baltimore Sun reports that Green Wednesday is the second biggest day for cannabis sales after 4/20.

At most dispensary locations, cannabis deals will continue through Black Friday. Schoonmaker told 13 ON YOUR SIDE that he's happy to receive more cannabis shoppers during this time of year.

"I'm just looking forward to giving weed to people who need it. Honestly, it's the biggest thing," said Schoonmaker.
