Father of Colin Rogers hospitalized, community members look to rally support for the Rogers family

"No family should be living like this," said Nadean Moore as members of ColinCrew aim to keep the Rogers family afloat.

MUSKEGON COUNTY, Mich. — "For the last week, both Colin and Clay have been on the same ICU unit in the same hospital," said Nadean Moore, a family friend of the Rogers Family.

Nadean, her daughter Samantha and their family are members of ColinCrew, a group of community members who have been supporting Colin Rogers and his family. The group has been seeking justice and law change after Colin was dragged by a vehicle and left with a severe brain injury in June of last year.

Colin's father, Clay, was admitted to the hospital after feeling unwell. Moore said that he is suffering from a brain bleed and will have to undergo physical and speech therapy.

She said Clay will be unable to work as he embarks on his own road to recovery. As the primary income earner of the family, it adds more uncertainty for the family. Colin's mother must continue caring for her son 24 hours a day.

"She's extremely positive, close with God. Praise him because without that, I don't think she would have gotten through half of what she's going through right now," said Moore.

They are looking for support to help pay for necessities for Colin and stay afloat while his father recovers.

"What matters is Colin's life and how his life will be lived for the rest of it. Is it going to be lived in a comfort of a home and a family that's there for him? Or is it going to be lived without the right mattress and without a vehicle?" said Moore.

Her daughter Samantha added that the family will continue having to make sure Colin gets the right medications, as the costs add up.

On the ColinCrew Facebook page they have created an Amazon Wishlist for necessary items and have a goal of raising money to purchase an accessible van.

"The donations will be used to help them sustain their house payments until Clay gets better," said Moore. "But we're also trying to make sure that they can get a van someday and someday soon, so Colin, and now Clay can get to their therapies, their doctor appointments, the follow-ups."

"No family should be living like this," she added.

Moore expressed that the Rogers family is thankful to those who have shown their support, including Ride YourWay, a non-profit that has been providing help with transporting Colin.

"We're just trying to make it so that the Roger's Family is a little better financially after this, and can be can live in a little comfort," said Moore.

There will be a Benefit Spaghetti Dinner on February 24 at Rum Runners in Ravenna, with a $12 entry cost, silent auction, bake sale, and 50/50 raffle to raise money for the Rogers.

Moore said while the group was founded to support Colin Rogers and his family's pursuit of justice, they encountered many more families caring for loved ones left with severe injuries.

"If there are people that have stories, we always want to invite them to put their story on the ColinCrew Facebook page, so people are aware of that story too, and if they need help with an event they're trying to run, we've got people that probably would dive in and help them out just because we know how it is to need help."
