Known as a faith leader in the Grand Rapids area, Marvin Sapp is now bringing his high energy services to the Lakeshore.
Marvin Sapp, a gospel singer and pastor, runs the Lighthouse Full Life Center Church in Grand Rapids and now will be holding services in Muskegon in addition.
Hundreds were in attendance for the very first service Sunday, April 2, at the former St Jean Baptiste Catholic Church. Sapp said chose Muskegon as his second location because it's a ripe area that has had a lot of successful ministry.
The award-winning singer hopes expanding his services can provide an opportunity for kids.
"With all the things that are happening specifically in the urban community with our young people, they need that spiritual balance and I think because I have the ability to bridge the spiritual as well as the secular together with my musical ability," Sapp said. "This is really giving me the opportunity to do it."
Sunday's service brought a few people to hear Sapp in person for the first time, including one woman who has been looking for a new church for a while.
"His songs, oh my goodness throughout the years his songs are so anointed when he sang by God, and it touches me and many others that I know," Priscilla Watkins said.
Sapp will continue to preach at his Grand Rapids church every Sunday morning at 10 a.m. His Muskegon services will begin at 3 p.m.
