HOLLAND, Mich. — When it comes to living life, Estella Lane always lives to the fullest.
"You know, my sister was always the first one on the dance floor," said her brother Gill Guterrez.
Originally from Holland, Guterrez said Lane was the only girl among six boys and instantly became everyone's favorite aunt, "all my my nieces and nephews always, you know, just really looked up to her."
Lane did anything for her family and even promised her grand nephew she would dance with him at his wedding. However, that promise is now in jeopardy.
Lane was diagnosed with ALS this past May, and was given just three to five years to live. However, her brother said her condition has rapidly gotten worse. Lane can't walk or talk, and may only have a few months to live.
To make matters worse, her nephew's wedding is in November. Lane lives in Maine and can only travel by medically supported planes.
"We started looking for the these charitable flights. Turns out none of them will accommodate someone more than 700 miles and it's usually for people 55 years and younger and cancer patients. I couldn't find anything for anyone with ALS," said Guterrez.
Lane's family is sharing her story, hoping that a local pilot could help them fly her home so that Estella can have her last dance.
