Meet the first baby born at U-M Health West in 2024

Vera Noelle just couldn’t wait until her due date.

WYOMING, Mich. — One family in West Michigan has a lot to be thankful for already, just two days into the new year. The Wolverines fans celebrated the Rose Bowl victory while welcoming their third baby into the world.

On New Year’s Day at 8:23 a.m., Courtney and Rocky Babcock welcomed Vera Noelle into the world.

Weighing 7 pounds, 9 ounces and measuring 19 inches long, Vera Noelle just couldn’t wait until her due date, so she had to come four days early.

”To celebrate on the first day of the year, people make to-do lists or goals for the year, and so to have that time to reflect on the year past, and to have her start the year in our life, that first day is extra special,” said Courtney.

Rocky says there couldn’t have been anything better to start the new year off with.

“So, [the Wolverines are a] big deal in our family as well, but we're texting during the game and everything, and we already have this exciting miracle that came in the world today,” Rocky said. It's New Year's, and then we get to watch Michigan win so that was great I don't think we could really do anything better or ask for anything more.”

The parents, who already have two young boys, say they are excited for their newest addition to the family — their first girl.

“It’s been really magical this time to have her older brothers understand that there's a baby inside and they say that's my baby, so they're very excited,” Courtney said.

The mother says the attention from the media Vera Noelle has received, just two days old, has made her experience extra special.

“The fact that we get to celebrate it with some splash on TV, or the recognition of being one of a couple of the babies in the area that were first at hospitals just makes it that much more memorable,” Courtney said.

The parents say they are grateful to the hospital staff at the University of Michigan Health-West who helped deliver their daughter.

“Thank you everyone for sharing this. Thank you grandma for coming over. I need to give a special shout out to grandma Kate and grandma Tunis, and Go Blue,” Rocky said.

The parents say they are very excited to bring Vera Noelle home to meet her two siblings and they’re even more excited to start the new year off on a very high note.
