GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — The Beer City Bung Hammers are making their grand return to LMCU Ballpark!

On Friday, Aug. 23, the Whitecaps are bringing back their celebration of Beer City USA by changing their mascot and team name for one night only. They've transformed into the Beer City Bung Hammers for one game every year since 2018.

For this year's return, they have something special planned. The official beer sponsor of the game, Saugatuck Brewing Company, is partnering with the Michigan DNR to make a difference.

Earlier this year, Saugatuck Brewing announced they are donating to the DNR with every case of their Rainbow Rodeo IPA sold during Michigan's trout fishing season from May to October. Those same beers will be for sale at the Whitecaps game.

Every dollar spent on an ice cold Rainbow Rodeo IPA while watching the Bung Hammers win will go toward the restoration and protection of wildlife across the state.

"Beer City Bung Hammers night is a fantastic opportunity to celebrate our local craft beer community and raise awareness for important conservation initiatives," said Saugatuck Brewing Company CEO John Miller. "We’re thrilled to partner with the Whitecaps and the DNR to make this event memorable and impactful."

DNR representatives will also be at the ballpark to educate fans about their projects across Michigan.

"I firmly believe that by working together, we can preserve and protect Michigan's natural treasures for generations to come,” said Scott Bowen, Director of the Michigan DNR. "This work isn't just a job; it's a responsibility we owe to our children and grandchildren. Every action we take today shapes the future of our environment, the outdoor-based recreation Michigan is known for, and the places we love."

Saugatuck Brewing is also launching a social media giveaway for fans. You can win two tickets to the Beer City Bung Hammers game, a Bung Hammers hat, the opportunity to throw the first pitch at the game, a Rainbow Rodeo IPA bundle and a prize from the Michigan DNR. HopCat will also be contributing a year of free Cosmic Fries to the giveaway.

The contest runs from Aug. 12 through Aug. 21. The winner announced on Aug. 21. You can enter by checking out the Saugatuck Brewing Company on Facebook or Instagram.

‌T‌he game is scheduled to start at 6:35 p.m. To get tickets, visit the Whitecaps website here
