GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — It's Oberon Day, which is the unofficial start of spring for many Michiganders! Each year, Bell's Brewery releases its iconic summertime ale that has become a staple in the Mitten State.

This is the 32nd year celebrating Oberon, which is a citrusy ale with a bright orange color. Originally called Solsun, the beer was crafted in 1992 by president and founder of Bell's Brewery, Larry Bell.

Since then, Bell's has released a few variations, including Oberon Eclipse during the winter months and Oberon cocktails.

Oberon hits store shelves Monday and is sold in bottles, cans, mini kegs and of course on draught at many Michigan bars. And for the first time ever, Oberon is being distributed in all 50 states.

Gov. Gretchen Whitmer posted on X to recognize the day:

This summer, a new drink will be added to the selection—Oberon Sunshine. Oberon Sunshine is a shandy that will be available in three different flavors: Cherry limeade, lemonade and tropical.

To celebrate Oberon Day, breweries across Michigan are hosting a slew of events on Monday. In West Michigan, nine venues are holding special launch parties, including Hopcat in Holland and Woodrows Duckpin in Grand Rapids. You can find a full list of West Michigan parties here.

You can also head to Bell's Eccentric Café in Kalamazoo for their opening party. There will be live music, a DJ, and of course, plenty of Oberon. It's free to attend and runs until 10 p.m. Monday.
