WHITEHALL, Mich. — If you've been looking for a cinnamon roll the size of a small child's head, look no further than the Bread Shed in Whitehall, Michigan.
Everything Abigail Eldred bakes is made from scratch with fresh, real ingredients.
"I had one gal say that she thought that my bread was from a mix because it tastes like store bought," said Eldred. "I took that as a compliment."
However, Eldred said she emphasizes how she never uses GMOs or mixes. Just blood, sweat, tears and real butter.
"We have the cinnamon rolls, we also have pecan sticky buns, the works rolls, which is frosting, caramel and pecans. We have salted caramel rolls and then we have a variety of breads," said Eldred.
And the flavors of bread she sells at the Bread Shed go on. From simple classics like sourdough, white or wheat to fun options like honey blueberry, three cheese, garlic or jalapeno.
"I always tell my customers, if you don't see what you want just let me know, because I can probably make it," she said.
Eldred said that if you'd asked her a year ago if she would be doing this, she would have told you you're full of it. Now, after not even two months of being open, business is so good she's struggling to keep the bread on the shelves.
"It's been wild, really wild, like people block our whole driveway off," she said.
The business has even been taking over her house as it's grown so fast.
"I have a whole professional kitchen, I took over my dining room," said Eldred.
In that dining room, she said she has two big mixers, a proofer and a bread slicer.
"I desperately need to put another oven in because I can't keep up with the demand," she said.
And if you'd like to add to that demand and check out the Bread Shed, you can learn more by visiting its Facebook page here.
