GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — A Grand Rapids restaurant is seeing a huge increase in business after being featured in the New York Times.
KCM is a Korean restaurant located at 209 Diamond Ave SE in the East Hills Neighborhood of Grand Rapids.
KCM's Hire Katsu Curry was listed in the New York Times' "Best American Dishes of 2023". Owner and chef Jason Kim says the article was a complete shock.
"Well, I really appreciate it, this opportunity. But yeah, I really, really, really appreciate, like the article. Also, on the other hand, like I feel sorry, for our regular customers, they have to wait like a long long wait time these days. We have to like rush because the article," said Kim.
The article had this to say about KCM:
Perhaps you live in a part of the country where katsu curry is abundant, and thus does not turn heads. Grand Rapids is not such a place, which is part of the reason my visit to KCM was so memorable. Larger reasons were the crisp perfection of the fried pork and the chef-owner Jason Kim’s convivial, prideful hospitality.
And despite the publicity, Kim is staying humble and working to do what he does best, making sure everyone leaves with a full stomach and a smile on their face.
"Like I said, I think we were just lucky. Yeah, I really appreciated this opportunity. But once again, I really just trying to keep making your food... just to maintain that same quality," said Kim.
The restaurant is open Tuesday through Saturday, 11:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sunday 11:30 a.m. to 8 p.m.
