GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — You might recognize a West Michigan classic at the Gerald R. Ford International Airport if you're looking for a bite before your flight!
A Uccello's Ristorante location officially opened inside the newly-expanded Concourse A on Tuesday morning. The grand opening featured artisanal products from local Grand Rapids vendors.
While Uccello's was founded in West Michigan and spread throughout the area, Vice President of Uccello's Hospitality Nick Langendorfer said the franchise was looking for an opportunity to expand in West Michigan even further.
"We found a great partner with the airport and with Paradies (Lagadere Travel Retail) as well, and just felt that it was a good opportunity for us and for them to continue to grow our brand in West Michigan," he said. "So we've been part of this community for over 45 years, when Faro Uccello opened his first pizzeria. So for us, it just made sense to partner with such a great company and organization."
Because the Uccello's location inside the airport will be smaller, Langendorfer said customers can expect a scaled-down menu—but the restaurant's signature dishes will still be included.
He said the expansion into the airport has been a goal years in the making.
"This is something that we have worked towards for a number of years to and to finally make that happen, today is truly a blessing for the family," Langendorfer said. "And you know, past and present employees that we've had have all been a very big part of this, and we're excited to bring everyone here into our Uccello's family as well."
