Grand Rapids salon holds free back-to-school hair braiding event

With summer break coming to an end one Grand Rapids salon is making sure kids look and feel their best.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Winner's Beauty Supply is making sure children going back to school this month have new and fresh hairstyles.

"It is rewarding. It really is rewarding, and we love it," said the co-owner of Winners Beauty Supply, Sarah Moisema.

Moisema is making it her duty to send kids back to school in style.

"We're really excited, the parents are excited, so grateful because school will be opening next week Monday so it's just right around the corner," said Moisema.

The owners want students to look and feel their best, by offering free braiding styles for children from kindergarten to high school.

"So we are here Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. You can come in with your kids, and we can do or we have four different styles on the boat over there. Anyone of the styles can be chosen," said Moisema.

Children can get their hair braided for free as a part of Winner's Beauty supplies back-to-school special that goes until August 15. If you want your child's hair braided, bookings are on a first-come, first-served basis. Co-owner of the salon, Sarah Moisema, said when a child sits in her seat, they are offered some snacks, love and a scripture.

"As we braid the kids hair, we give them scriptures. That when they go home, they can meditate on the scriptures. The way in which God demonstrated his love to us, we give, so our way of giving in Winner's is to give back to the community," said Moisema.

Moisema is from Liberia and started her business with her sister in 2003. Over the last few years, she's been able to offer free hairstyles to many people in her community. She said giving back is one of her greatest blessings.

"God lay on our heart to bless mothers that can't afford to, you know, get their kids hair braided, so to go back to school and to just be a blessing to this community that is being a blessing to this business," said Moisema.
