Three Grand Rapids churches hosting free citywide Thanksgiving dinner

In a time when there is so much division in our country and the world, three pastors say now is the time to come together as one community and eat together.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — The sanctuary at the Renaissance Church on 33rd Street near Eastern Avenue in Grand Rapids is about to be transformed into an extra-large dining room, and everyone is invited.

The Renaissance Church, Life Center Church, and Restoring Faith Ministries are joining forces to host a free citywide dinner on Tuesday, Nov. 26 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

"The intent of that community dinner is to welcome everyone from all walks of life. Whatever economic status, wherever you are, come and enjoy community dinner. Whether you have needs or you might not have needs, everyone come and enjoy community dinner together," said pastor Parris McMurray from Renaissance.

The pastors say food is a unifying force that brings people together.

"Food just breaks down the guard. Nothing opens you up like a good plate of food," said pastor Mark Rigsby from Life Center.

"Deals are made in front of a plate. You know, problems are solved in front of a plate, and so a community coming together in front of a plate, we might be able to solve a few things."

People do not need to dress up when they come.

"You can come in your jeans. Just come as you are. We won't be confined in any capacity. Come relaxed and let's just have fun," said pastor Scotty Pearson from Restoring Faith.

The only thing that the pastors ask is that you register for the event, so they can get an accurate head count, They've set up a website to help people register.
