MUSKEGON, Mich. — Dozens of people found more than a good book to read on Wednesday night at Hackley Public Library. They also found a heaping helping of holiday spirit.
The library hosted a holiday party for people of all ages. Staff members provided tours of the history facility along with arts and crafts, bingo, and snacks. The event was an opportunity for the library to say hello to some old friends who have been coming to the library for years, and to meet some newcomers to the library.
"That's something that we always want to strive to do, is make sure that we're getting the word out about library services, programs, events, to those that do frequent but to those that might not. This is a great learning opportunity for people to see everything that we do offer," said community engagement coordinator Mallory Metzger.
"The library is a wonderful source for getting books and materials, but it's so much more than that. It's programs. It's public computers. It's a space to relax."
The library will also be hosting several more holiday events leading up to Christmas. On Thursday, they'll host a gift-wrapping social for seniors. On Friday, there will be a gingerbread house decorating workshop. On Monday there will be more opportunities to work on holiday crafts. Metzger says she's looking forward to seeing people at all those events.
"I love the patrons. I work a lot of the time at my desk, so I don't get to see patrons as frequently. That's one of my favorite things is when I get to help working with programs," she said.
"We live in an amazing community, and we wouldn't be here at the library if it wasn't for them. So really and truly, that's one of my favorite things, is just being able to get to know our community."
