MICHIGAN, USA — Move over, Stranger Things. A new costume is taking the top spot across the country this Halloween.
FrightGeist put together a list of the most popular costumes every year using Google Trends. This year, the most-bought character could have you seeing pink.
In Michigan, the top costume goes to Barbie. It's the most popular in Grand Rapids, Kalamazoo, Battle Creek, Detroit and Marquette.
In Traverse City, Cadillac, Flint, Saginaw and Bay City, a princess costume claimed the throne.
Standing out from the pack, Alpena's top search for an ensemble this Halloween is Lady Gaga and Lansing is Beyoncé, specifically from her Renaissance album.
These Michigan trends reflect national searches, with Barbie ranking first for costumes, a princess coming in second, and Spider-Man coming in third.
The rest of the top costumes across the country are as follows, according to FrightGeist:
- Witch
- Fairy
- Wednesday Addams
- Dinosaur
- Cowboy
- Ninja
- Bunny
- Rabbit
- Pirate
- Princess Peach
- Clown
- Pumpkin
Surprisingly, Taylor Swift only ranks 22nd on the list this year, despite the popularity of her Eras Tour, the release of her movie and apparent romance with Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce.
