GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Hundreds of people crowded Kent District Library's Plainfield Township branch on Monday for a night full of holiday cheer. Inside, there were crafts and a performance from the Northview High School jazz band. But the real stars of the show were outside in the parking lot.
Two reindeer met face-to-face with joyful children. Neither of the reindeer was Rudolph, nor were they any other other famed reindeer that you know from Christmas songs. After all, those reindeer are surely resting up for their journey across the world in just a few days time.
Instead, these reindeer were named Mittens and Liz. They live at the Rooftop Landing Reindeer Farm in Clare, which is visiting Kent District Library branches across the area, teaching children and their parents interesting facts about reindeer. The children we talked to on Monday night said the best part was getting to feed and pet the reindeer as they came around.
The library group is offering several more chances for people to see the reindeer ahead of Christmas. Here is the remaining schedule:
- Tuesday, Dec. 17 at 4 p.m. - Alto Branch
- Tuesday, Dec. 17 at 6:30 p.m. - East Grand Rapids Branch
