Ionia boy fighting terminal brain cancer crosses item off bucket list

COOPERSVILLE, Mich. — A 4-year-old Ionia boy had one of his dreams come true Sunday at the Coopersville and Marne Railway

Peyton Dennis was diagnosed with diffuse intrinsic pontine glioma (DIPG) in February. His mother said doctors gave him 3 months to a year to live.

"The longest that somebody has lived with it is 14 months," said Katie Dennis.

Peyton's family has created a bucket list that they are working to complete, when Peyton is not receiving radiation treatment.

"Every wish has been fulfilled by somebody, somehow," Katie said.

On April 7, the day before Peyton's fifth birthday, he got to check train ride off of that list.

The volunteer-run railway gave Peyton and his family a private cab on the train ride from Coopersville to Marne, his own conductor cap and an early Easter present.

"We are really thankful for everything that everybody has done for Peyton and our family I mean we cannot thank them enough."
