GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Now that Thanksgiving is over, it's time to start looking for that perfect Christmas Tree! Michigan ranks third in the nation for the number of Christmas trees harvested every year. The state sells roughly 2-million conifers annually across the country.
In greater Grand Rapids there are more than 15 farms to choose from. We stopped Victoria's Tree Farm at 9990 Vosburg Lane, NE in Ada on Friday. The farm has three species of trees; Blue Spruce, White Spruce and a Canaan Fir which has a softer needle. Victoria Williams and her husband opened the tree farm 11 years ago. She says it's something she always wanted to do and she likes bringing joy to others during the holiday season. "As word spread, you can see people came and we're obviously busy on the weekends." said Williams. "It's all about family and keeping it in the community."
According to Michigan Ag Council, Michigan has about 37,000 acres in commercial tree production and sells more than 9 varieties of trees. The industry generates around $40 million annually, but Williams says for her family it's about much more than money. "I think it brings families together. It makes you slow down and take time for the holidays." Williams works the farm along with her husband and son and their friends.
Victoria's Tree Farm also offers crafts, wreaths, and other homemade items to purchase. "We welcome people to bring their dogs out and you know, share the family experience."
Victoria's Tree Farm is open Wednesday through Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Trees are $7.00 a foot. Here's a list of other Christmas Tree Farms across the state of Michigan.
