MUSKEGON, Mich. — Puppies and kittens are adorable but adopting a senior animal is one of the most rewarding experiences you can do.
November is adopt a senior pet month and we’re highlighting just one of many in Muskegon waiting for their forever family.
The gray on the face of this beautiful brindle Mountain Cur is testament to a long life.
8-year-old Luna came to Big Lake Humane Society from a partner shelter in Tennessee.
“She was an owner surrender to that shelter. And we do know from our time working with her that she had had some training, probably more of like a guard dog kind of thing. She may have been on a farm, which also is where she has some herding tendencies and stuff like that. So we do see that very smart, very motivated by food," Velvet Light, shelter manager, said.
Luna has now been at the shelter for more than 560 days.
She is looking for a home where she will be the only pet and no small children.
“She's got a lot of high energy. So that kind of family that has those middle school and older children or even an adult family or a single person that loves to have play time with ropes. She loves ball, she loves to go for walks," Light said.
Despite Luna being a senior, she is in very good health and has a lot of life left to live and love to give.
“She absolutely adores humans. There isn't one she has met that she doesn't like and when we bring her up into our living room setup up here to watch some Disney movies with the staff. She just cuddles up and hangs out and she just wants to be right there with you being a part of just being with you," Light said.
Senior animals are often overlooked at shelters but this is your opportunity to change that.
“They've got a really great personality already in place. They've already got some good training. And they've already got some ideas of how to be a companion dog. And they’re really kind of more laid back," Light said.
If you’re looking for your next best friend, so is Luna.
Give this sweet senior a chance and a home for the holidays.
There is no adoption fee for Luna thanks to a generous sponsor.
