Back pain is the single most common physical condition for which patients visit their doctor.
However, you probably wouldn't go to a psychologist when it comes to getting rid of the pain.
Dr. Sylvia Malcore from Spectrum Health Medical Group's Spine & Pain Management Center talks with WZZM 13 health reporter Valerie Lego about how psychology might help you with back pain by using Cognitive-behavioral Therapy (CBT) to treat patients.
Cognitive-behavioral therapy focuses on the way people think and their actions and how this impacts how they feel. CBT is an evidence based treatment for a variety of mental health concerns, including helping patients to cope with their chronic pain.
