It might be cold and wet and gloomy, but it's still important to make sure you keep moving all year round.

When it comes to staying healthy and active, winter is just the worst. It's cold and slippery, it gets dark too early, and there's no lakes to swim in that aren't ice cold. That said, you can still keep moving and stay active and fit during the long winter months.

Amy Ritsema from OnSite Wellness shared some tips to help keep us on track this winter, and maybe actually enjoy ourselves.

1. Dress is layers! The layer closest to your skin should be a moisture wicking material, stay away from cotton as it tends to keep you wet. The next layer should be an insulating material like fleece and the outer most layer should be waterproof yet breathable.

2. Stay hydrated! Keeping hydrated is just as important in the winter months as it is in summer, even though we may not feel as thirsty.

3. Sign up for activities at your local community center or gym. Group activities are a great way to stay active and meet new friends.

4. Move while you’re at home! You can add movement to your day even when you’re watching tv. During commercial breaks get up and jog in place, do squats, push-up, or even jump rope. A quick YouTube search will also give you all kinds of at home workouts for all fitness levels. Dancing while cooking dinner is another fun way to keep moving year-round.
