The city of Lowell will move forward with plans to build a new showboat.
The Robert E. Lee was closed to the public shortly after Christmas last year when it was determined it was no longer safe.
The rebuild the showboat committee received a big boost from State Sen. Dave Hildenbrand. He was able to secure a $1-million grant to help fund the project. The money becomes available after October 1.
The showboat has been a fixture in Lowell since the 1930s.
