Try It Before You Buy It: Eufy Smart Lock

We try the Eufy Smart Lock. Find out if you can lose your keys for good!

Is it finally time to lose your keys for good?

We are trying the Eufy Wi-Fi Smart Lock.

We picked this up locally for about $250, but you can easily find it online.

You will find the lock and all the parts and pieces to install it in your door in the box, including a new lock and strike plate.

First impressions are: this is heavy, solid, and well built.

The instructions seem easy to follow, and everything is well labeled… but does it work?

We Try It Before You Buy It!

We are going to try this on our back door.

First, we had to remove the old deadbolt and all its fun parts.

Once out, the new one swapped out quickly.

Putting in the new lock was simple, but you might need an extra set of hands because it is a little heavy and awkward.

Once you get the outside put in place, you need to connect a cable to the inside unit, and you can finish up the tricky part.

After checking to ensure the deadbolt will lock and unlock, we hooked the battery up to charge it with the included USB cable. It took four hours to fully charge and claims to last an entire year before needing a recharge.

Once the battery is installed, it will prompt you to install an app on your phone.

The app has visual installation instructions and will pair easily with your device by scanning its QR code.

Once it is scanned and walks you through its calibration, you are off and running.

With the app, you can customize multiple features from autolocking at a set time, even making sure it is locked overnight. Tones, chimes.

You can add passcodes to use the number pad for various users, including anyone you might want to grant access to your house.

But the best part is this is where you can set up fingerprint access.

After setting it up, all you need is your finger, and you can get in.

You can also use your phone.

And in case the power is out, it still has a traditional key, the only downside is it is not a rekey-able lock, and the included keys are not common, so you are more than likely going to have a different key for this door.

The smart lock does everything it claims, including connecting to your home network so you can control it with Google Home or Alexa. Once installed, it feels safe and secure.

So, the positives are:

- The ability to open your door with a fingerprint or phone

- It is wireless and self-contained in the door

- The fact you can give other people access with a code

The only negatives are the dependence on the app. If you do not have a smartphone, then this lock is not for you. Another negative is the different style key it uses. You will need two house keys since this key is not common.

We rate this as a “Buy It!”
