GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Do you love your toaster? Do you wish it would transform into an oven?
That’s what the Ninja Foodi 2-in-1 Flip Toaster promises, but does it work?
Let’s try it!
The Ninja Foodi 2-in-1 Flip Toaster comes packaged with the oven, the paddle and the instructions. It feels sturdy and is about 1/3 longer than a regular toaster. The feature that makes this unique is its ability to go from toaster to oven in just a flip. So you’ll need the counter space.
First, how does it toast? In about two minutes, it popped up some perfect toast compared to a slower traditional toaster. Next, we tried the bagel setting, and it came out perfectly. And a frozen waffle was another ideal toast.
Then we transformed it into an oven. We tried out the broiler first, and for this, we added a little cheese to our freshly made pasta and broiled it for a few minutes. We noticed there is no real way to watch your food cook without pulling the tray out, which pauses the oven. But the cheese came out brown and bubbly after a few minutes, just like an authentic oven.
How about Pizza Rolls? The cooking time was about two minutes longer than a regular oven, but there were no heavy preheat times. They came out great. Fries and chicken nuggets also came out great, but the fries alone took over 30 minutes to cook, and the chicken was around 25 minutes—such a long wait for a small meal.
We then tested the reheat option, which warms both sides of the tray to give you a balanced cook. It made our leftover meatloaf from the night before taste even better.
This device would fit in well in a small apartment or a dorm room, but at over $100, it’s not worth the cost to be a family toaster.
So, the results!
The positives:
- It fits on a counter
- Easy to use
- Great at toasting
The negatives:
- Hard to monitor the food
- Small portion sizes
- Large
We wanted to love the Ninja Foodi 2-in-1 Flip Toaster, but its functions as an oven were lacking, with no window and small portion sizes. We rate this as a "Consider it."
