Try It Before You Buy It: Handy Heater Turbo 800

Can a little heater with no cords pack a punch when it comes to heating your room? We test it out!

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Cold weather giving you chills? Need a better way to warm up your space?

Then the Handy Heater Turbo 800 might be for you. It promises a space-saving, wireless way to heat up your room. But does it work?

Let’s try it!

The Handy Heater comes fully assembled and ready to go right out of the box. It has controls on top and an adjustable plug on the back. There are a few demands, such as being the only item in an outlet and on its own circuit.

We first tried this in our coldest room using a spot thermometer. We can see various places in the room that hit the low 60s in temp. We plugged the heater in and turned it on. The touch controls are very sensitive, and it sounded like a hairdryer. Immediately after turning it on, we could feel a blast of heat. And checking it with our thermometer, we could see it was cranking out over 100 degrees of heat.

We left it alone to see how it would do. And in an hour, the room felt warmer, and the area under the heater showed an increase in temperature. So far, it’s working.

Next up, we tried it in a large room that is only slightly drafty. This didn’t make a dent other than the feeling of heat from the fan on the floor. When it reached its temperature, you could hear it click off and on to maintain the air temperature.

Finally, how will this work in a cold basement bedroom? We plugged it in the only place we could find and it was a little weird of a spot with a vent under the outlet, but it worked. We set the timer to one hour and left it to heat. In an hour, we opened the door and could feel a significant improvement, and the timer also worked.

So overall, it warmed up the rooms, but one thing to note is you need to have open outlets with three feet of space around them to be safe.

So, the results!

The positives:

  • It’s small
  • Will warm up a bedroom
  • It’s easy to use

The negatives:

  • The heater sounds like a hair dryer, so it’s not as quiet as advertised
  • Finding an open plug for it could be difficult

Overall, we thought the Handy Heater Turbo 800 checked all the boxes for a small space-saving heater. If you have a chilly room and an open outlet, we rate this as a “Buy It!”
