GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Two Michigan-based companies are expanding their operations in the state, bringing nearly 150 high-tech jobs to Grand Rapids and Traverse City, Gov. Gretchen Whitmer announced Thursday.

Payload CMS, Inc. will be bringing an estimated 55 high-wage jobs to Grand Rapids with the expansion of the company's existing facility in the city.

“Payload is the tip of the spear that is turning Grand Rapids into the tech hub of the Midwest and putting this region’s technological prowess on the map globally,” said James Mikrut, CEO of Payload CMS.

The company provides content management solutions and application framework to build and manage digital content.

The expansion of the facilities will add 1,600 square feet to its existing garage attached to the company's current office space.

Payload was founded in Grand Rapids in 2018. The new expansion project is expected to bring in $875,000 in capital investment.

The company says it chose Michigan for the expansion over competing sites in California, Florida, and New York.

“Today’s expansion by two homegrown Michigan companies is further proof that Michigan is on the move and open for business,” said Governor Gretchen Whitmer. “We are bringing supply chains home from overseas, creating high-tech, good-paying jobs in Michigan communities, and experiencing record-high economic growth. I applaud Payload CMS and Earfab Americas for their decision to invest here in Michigan, and I am committed to helping more individuals, families, and businesses make it in Michigan.”

Earfab Americas also announced they would locate their North American operations in Traverse City. The project is expected to create up to 93 new jobs in the region.

The two developments gained financial support through Michigan Business Development Program grants totaling $877,500 between the two projects.
