GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — The Michigan department of Treasury has confirmed to us that the eService system used to process tax returns is seeing some delays.
Officials say it’s because the high volume of 2023 tax returns and supplemental checks for the 2022 Michigan Earned Income tax credit are being done at the same time.
That's causing the service to take a little more time to synchronize with the latest return status information.
Tax returns that had the 30% Michigan Earned Income Tax Credit, or a part of the Retirement Tax Rollback, couldn't be processed until February 13th and tax return season started later than usual this year.
As of last week, 531,000 tax returns have been processed, totaling about $338 million dollars in returns.
As of Tuesday, 450,000 2022 Tax Income Credit supplemental checks have been issued.
The good news is that the department said this delay does not affect the processing of tax returns or the issuing of any refunds or supplemental checks.
Officials said taxpayers, who want to check on their refund after filing, should wait either three to four weeks for e-filed returns or six to eight weeks for paper filed to use the eService to check on your return or refund.
13 ONE YOUR SIDE also got word that some people were having issues with Turbo Tax. The department was able to confirm that those issues were on Turbo Tax's end. The company is doing a software update on Thursday.
