NEWAYGO, Mich. — Buying new furniture can be a hassle. Once you find something that fits your space, you still have to make sure it fits your budget.
Upscale Resales opened up in Newaygo last year to help solve just that. The store is entirely focused on repurposing old furniture. Owner Vicki Jones says it helps that furniture comes at a huge discount, while still keeping a sturdy foundation.
"When we tear a part of a chair or couch or anything, we tear it right down to the frame," Jones said. "We check the joints to make sure it's not wiggly. We fix anything that's broken. We've retied the springs."
She and her husband repurpose all of the pieces themselves. All of the furniture in the store is for sale and customizable based on what fits the buyer's home.
"Maybe a low income family or families that can't afford new furniture, they can get affordable furniture here in the color they want, the style they want," Jones said.
Jones can reupholster the furniture herself, either for things you already own or things you purchase through her store.
It's not just a way to stay within your budget; it's also a way to be sustainable and give back to the environment.
"It keeps it out of the landfill. It's going to last you a lot longer than buying anything today," Jones said.
You can find Upscale Resales at 8425 South Mason Drive in Newaygo. It's open at 9am most days, except for on Sunday when it's closed.
