GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Tax season is here!
The IRS will begin accepting tax returns for the 2023 tax year starting on January 29.
There is free tax help available right here in West Michigan.
Heart of West Michigan United Way is helping Kent County residents that are eligible for things like the Earned Income Tax Credit and the Child Tax Credit get back extra funds.
IRS trained and certified volunteers will assist you prepare and file your income tax return.
The service is free if the household income is $65,000 or less.
"A lot of our people who come through the doors, they just want to pay medical bills, you know, meet basic needs pay rent, pay heating, and we're that catalyst to helping them to do that," Brenda Brame, Program Manager, Kent County Tax Credit Coalition, said.
The program offers both in-person help and online filing through myfreetaxes.com.
