If you've filed your state taxes and have been left wondering "where's my refund?' The Department of Treasury says check online.
Michiganders who filed a 2016 state individual state income tax return can check the state of their refund online at www.michigan.gov/wheresmyrefund.
Those who e-filed their taxes can check their refund status two weeks from the date their state return was accepted. If the paper-filed route was taken, tax returns can be viewed four to six weeks after postmarking.
According to the Department of Treasury, more than 5 million individual income tax returns are processed manually, with about 4 million returns being filed online.
Last year, more that $1.8 billion was refunded through 3.7 million returns -- with two-thirds of the refunds directly deposited into the taxpayer's bank account.
When checking your refund's status online, you'll need the following information handy:
- Social Security number
- Tax year
- Filing status
- Adjusted Gross Income (AGI) or Total Household Resources (THRs)
You can find your AGI on line 10 of the MI-1040. Your THRs are found on line 33 on the MI-1040CR or line 34 on the MI-1040CR-7.
