Four people were hurt after a two-car accident on Cascade Rd. near 28th Street.

Kent County Deputies say both cars, a Pontiac Grand Prix and a Chevy Equinox, were traveling east around 9 p.m. Saturday when the accident happened.

The investigation revealed the Grand Prix was traveling eastbound on Cascade Road at a high rate of speed when it struck the Equinox, which had just turned eastbound on Cascade Road from 28th Street.

The Pontiac was driven by 20-year-old Colin Kerkstra of Wyoming. He was transported to Spectrum/Butterworth with serious injuries. His passenger was 17-year-old Kylee Christian of Grand Rapids, who was transported to Devos Children’s Hospital, also with serious injuries.

The Chevrolet was driven by 70-year-old John Pierce of Lowell and his passenger was 72-year-old Nancy Pierce, also of Lowell. Both were transported to Spectrum/Blodgett with minor injuries.

Alcohol and speed are both believed to be factors in the crash, which is still under investigation

The Westbound lanes of Cascade Rd. were closed for several hours after the crash.
