KALAMAZOO, MIch. (WZZM) -- Accused serial killer Jason B. Dalton's wife has filed for divorce, disclosing that the couple separated the same day he's accused of going on a shooting spree that left six people dead and two critically wounded.
The divorce, filed late afternoon Thursday in Kalamazoo County Circuit Court, cites a "breakdown in the marriage relationship to the extent the objects of matrimony have been destroyed and there remains no reasonable liklihood that the marriage can be preserved.''
"The parties separated on Feb. 20,'' the complaint states.
Court records say Jason Dalton "was employed as an insurance driver for Michigan Appraisal Company, earning approximately $50,000 a year. He also drives for Uber, but he is presently incarcerated,'' the complaint states.
Carole Dalton works as a registered sales assistant for Raymond James, earning approximately $40,000 per year, the complaint says.
She is seeking sole legal and physical custody of their two children, a son, 15, and a daughter, 10. The complaint asks that child support be paid from Jason Dalton's 401k plan.
"It is anticipated that the defendant will remain incarcerated through his criminal trial and thereafter,'' the divorce filing states.
A priest married the couple on June 17, 1995 in Kalamazoo.
Earlier this week, Carole Dalton's attorney appeared on ABC News where he denied the couple had been experiencing financial troubles or that the couple was estranged.
Jason Dalton was reportedly driving for Uber to earn money to take his wife and children on a family vacation to Disney World.
Dalton is accused of killing six people during last Saturday's shooting spree.
The two surviving victims, 14-year-old Abigail Kopf and 25-year-old Tiana Carruthers, both remain in the hospital recovering.
