City breaks ground on Grand Rapids biodigester Thursday

The city will break ground on a 38 million dollar biodigester on Thursday, Dec. 14.

It's a state of the art project that Grand Rapids leaders say will help them achieve the city's 100 percent renewable energy goal by 2025.

The city broke ground on a $38 million biodigester on Thursday, Dec. 14.

The biodigester will go in at Market Avenue near the city's Black Hills neighborhood.

The project is projected to be complete in 2019 and will produce about 50 percent of the electricity the Water Resource Recovery Facility needs.
