GRAND HAVEN, Mich. — The US Coast Guard said it permanently relieved Master Chief Petty Officer Marc Moore as officer in charge of the Grand Haven station last month.
The Coast Guard's Office of Personnel Management relieved Moore on March 8 "due to a loss of confidence in his judgment and ability to fulfill his assigned duties."
Master Chief Petty Officer Moore took over the Grand Haven station in 2011. He previously served as an executive petty officer in Wisconsin and Virginia.
13 ON YOUR SIDE spoke with the Ninth District Public Affairs Officer LTJG Phillip Gurtler.
He said Moore "was not acting in accordance to our core values of Honor, Respect, and Devotion to Duty."
Before this action, Gurtler said prior to the investigation "Moore's 24 years of service was nothing short of exemplary."
When pressed about what actions were in violation of the core values, he declined to provide further details.
Chief Petty Officer Justin Abold is now in temporary command of Station Grand Haven until a permanent Officer in Charge is determined.
Grand Haven's Coast Guard station is manned by active duty and reserve members.
It's also home to one 45' Response Boat-Medium, two 29' Response Boat - smalls and two 15' ice or shallow rescue skiffs.
The West Michigan outfit focuses on search and rescue, as well as maritime law enforcement on more than 3,500 square miles and four counties on the eastern half of Lake Michigan.
