Winter reading programs at West Michigan libraries

Libraries around West Michigan are hosting various winter reading programs, read on to find a program near you so you can join in the fun!

MICHIGAN, USA — When the weather outside is frightful, how about something delightful? It's the perfect time to grab some cocoa and cozy up with a good book!

This winter, why not also get rewarded for turning over those pages? Libraries around West Michigan are hosting various winter reading programs, read on to find a program near you so you can join in the fun!

Kent County's Kent District Library

Kent District Library is hosting its "Let it Snow" 2024 Reading Club. Adults and teens (age 11+) can read or listen to just six books to earn a Let it Snow mug. By logging four more titles you'll be entered into the library's Power Reader drawing for a chance to win an Amazon Kindle Scribe or other prizes.

The reading club started on Dec. 1 and continues until Feb. 29, 2024. For more information on how to sign up and get started you can visit kdl.org.

Muskegon's Hackley Public Library

The Hackley Public Library's winter reading program is free to join and available for all ages. Completing the Hackley Public Libraries program will also make you eligible to earn a prize, prizes will be available to pick up beginning Feb. 1-15.

Hackley's winter reading program will begin on Jan. 1 and end Jan. 31. For more information on how to sign up and get started you can visit hackleylibrary.org.

Grand Haven's Loutit District Library

Loutit Library's winter reading program is themed "Where We Come From," based on the poetic picture book written by John Coy, Shannon Gibney, Sun Yung Shin, and Diane Wilson and illustrated by Dion MBD. Participants are challenged to read and log at least 180 minutes (3 hours) during the challenge, all while diving into your own history and unique story through the picture book.

Loutit's program begins on Jan. 1 and ends Jan. 31. By logging your minutes read and reflecting on your own story you can earn badges for your virtual bingo card. Once you get a bingo you'll have a choice between a bath bomb or a mug. By filling out your entire card you'll be entered into the grand prize drawing. Spring Lake District Library in Spring Lake

The Spring Lake District Library is holding a "Blizzard of Books" winter reading challenge. They invite participants to explore new genres, rediscover old favorites, and share your literary adventures with fellow participants. The challenge is open to adults and high schoolers. By reading just five books you can win a Blizzard of Books glass mug and a free drink coupon from Biggby. Participants can also enter to win a gift card to a local business, one ticket per book read.

Ravenna Branch of the Muskegon Area District Library

The Ravenna Branch of the Muskegon Area District Library is doing a Winter Book Bingo program for their winter reading program. Those who enter will receive a bingo card, by completing five challenges in a row you'll be entered to win a $50 Wesco gift card.

The Winter Book Bingo challenge began on Dec. 1 but will continue through Feb. 29. Those interested in entering can stop into the library to pick up a bingo card. For more information on how to sign up and get started you can visit their Facebook page.
