Community members honor beloved school cook Robbie Hough at celebration of life event

Community members said Hough had a gift for cooking and shared it with countless people near and far for most of her life.

MUSKEGON COUNTY, Mich. — Members of the Muskegon community came together at Angel Community Church for beloved Muskegon High School cook Robbie Hough who died suddenly earlier this July. Friends and family members shared stories about the impact she made on their lives including her daughter Joy Fikes.

"She left behind a spirit of perseverance and faith and we are going to continue that in every way and her legacy will be celebrated,” Fikes said. "Her legacy will go on for generations to come through myself, through my child and through the students and faculty and staff at Muskegon High School and the Muskegon community."

Hough made it her priority to serve her students hearty and nutritious meals, spending extra time in the kitchen cooking for her students and working as much as 50 hours a week. For Hough, it wasn’t work, but it was her passion. Community members said she had a gift for cooking and shared it with countless people near and far for most of her life.

"Robbie and I have been friends for over 20 years, we met in the church,” Cora Foxe said. "I can remember the day she walked into the church holding this great big bible and I believe our spirits just connected, and she and I have been friends ever since. She was special, and a friend everyone should have."

Hough's faith was something she wasn't afraid to show others. She used her faith in God to inspire and help others, including her sister who said Robbie was one of a kind, and helped lead her to her own success even when she doubted herself.

"I wrote a book and she read it, she just encouraged me and told me how wonderful it was, she couldn't stop speaking about how great it was and she never stopped encouraging me,” Glory Hough Davis said. "I’m just so thankful and grateful for my sister Robbie.”

Overall, the sentiment at the celebration of life was that the loss of Robbie Hough is a life gone too soon, but through the countless lives she's impacted, her legacy with live through them forever.
