ROCKFORD, Michigan — A new hotel is coming to Downtown Rockford.
Wheeler Development Group broke ground at 12 South Main Street in Downtown Rockford in an empty lot that'll soon bring more traffic and business to an already popular area with their new project “Hotel Rosa.”
It’s a project that some members of the community are happy to see coming to their neighborhood as this will be the downtown areas first hotel. Wheeler Development Group president Ryan Wheeler is excited to finally get the project started.
"It's been about 15 years since downtown Rockford has seen a new building, and the area has been growing a lot,” Ryan Wheeler said. "There are good spaces being revitalized, there's a lot more retailers and they're doing better. The interest that we've had on the ground floor retail space has been amazing, there are a lot of people that want to live and work in downtown Rockford."
The brand-new boutique hotel will feature 54 guest rooms, 2 restaurants and 10,000 square feet of space on the ground level for retail shops. The development group started working on the project in October of 2018, but was significantly delayed during the COVID-19 pandemic. The boutique hotel will be managed by AHC Hospitality, a management company that currently oversees 13 hotels and 30 restaurants.
"I think communities like Rockford are just really special places in America and I think it's an opportunity to create what I call a community treasure of a place where people can meet, they can experience, they can be with friends and family,” AHC Hospitality CEO Rick Winn said.
The construction of the hotel will take about 12 months, taking up almost an entire city block and bringing an inspiration of growth to the downtown area.
