MUSKEGON, Mich. — The City of Muskegon is hosting its very first New Year’s Eve ball drop downtown, a plan they said has been in the works for months.
“I don't think we've ever had one here before,” said Lakeshore Legacy Project President Terry Puffer. "I think Grand Rapids had one a few years ago. You've got to get up to Traverse City or even Ludington is the closest one around Grand Rapids, but they haven't done it in a few years.”
The fun will begin with a ball drop, music from live DJs, fireworks and other activities for the community to enjoy.
The event will take place between Rad Dad’s bar and Legends Bar at the corner of Fourth Street and West Western Avenue.
Restaurants in the area will stay open to serve food and drinks in the Social District.
“I think it brings everybody together,” Puffer said. "I think in Muskegon specifically, there has been opportunities for group space and people that don't generally hang out together. When you host these events, I think we do get a lot of different dynamics together.”
If you're planning on attending the event, organizers are asking attendees to participate in a coat drive and bring new hats, gloves, socks and coats to be donated to those in need. The drive will be hosted at Rad Dad's restaurant from 5 to 7 p.m.
The ball drop is free and open to all.
