GRAND HAVEN, Mich. — A Grand Haven coffee shop is reopening its doors after being closed for nearly two years. Jumpin’ Java Coffee Shop on Washington Avenue in Downtown Grand Haven announced the news on social media.
General Manager Larry Alexander said the coffee shop has been serving coffee with smiles for decades.
“Jumpin’ Java has been a fixture in Grand Haven for a long time,” Alexander said.
Jumpin’ Java has been a staple in the community since 1999. Erin Lyons purchased the shop from its previous owner in 2015.
Alexander said since they announced that the shop was planning to reopen, they have received nothing but kind messages from former customers expressing how excited they are about the shop reopening.
“When people started hearing on social media that we were coming back, we got lots of positive responses, “can't wait”, “this is what I’m going to do when I first come into back into your shop,” all sorts of things so we've definitely got a positive buzz going already,” Alexander said.
The community was sad to see the shop close its doors after being open for 23 years. Alexander said he’s excited to see new and old customers again.
“We are a very comfortable place to come. People like our product obviously and our staff is very friendly, very welcoming,” Alexander said. “We appreciate everyone that comes in through our doors, whether they've been here before or they come back every day.”
The coffee shop closed in December of 2022, when owner Erin Lyons tried to focus on a new adventure. However, she ultimately regretted the decision to close her coffee shop.
Alexander said in an effort to reopen the coffee shop as quickly as possible, they asked for help and are grateful for the support from the community.
“When we decided we were going to go forward with it, we wanted to get on board as quickly as possible so we started a GoFundMe and some other means of raising money just to get things going quicker, and it's helped out a lot,” Alexander said.
Alexander said he looks forward to serving coffee again.
“I’m looking forward to making coffee, seeing some old friends, making some new ones,” Alexander said. This place is a fixture in the community and everyone is glad to have this backbone and we're even more happy to be back,” Alexander said.
The coffee shop expects to have its grand reopening by the end of January. To support the coffee shop’s reopening efforts, you can make a monetary donation here.
