4 arrested after crashing stolen vehicle into power pole; stolen cell phones found

According to Bennett, deputies found stolen cell phones in the vehicle.

HOLLAND CHARTER TOWNSHIP, Mich. - Four teenagers were arrested after crashing a stolen vehicle into a power pole in the Holland area.

According to the Ottawa County Sheriff's Office, deputies were tipped off by authorities in St. Joseph County just before 8 a.m. that a stolen Chevrolet Malibu was headed to the Holland-Zeeland area. Police say the vehicle was tracked by a GPS service.

The vehicle was spotted around 8 a.m. by Ottawa County sheriff's deputies leaving at a high rate of speed heading eastbound on Lakewood Boulevard.

The suspects led authorities on a short chase before crashing into a power pole at Lakewood Boulevard and 112th Street. The intersection was closed down because of power lines in the roadway.

The suspects are:

  • Kennedy Lee Wilson, 17-year-old old female
  • Brandon Lumar Floyd, 17-year-old male
  • Xzavier Armon Morgan, 17-year-old male
  • 14-year-old male whose name has not yet been released

Captain Mark Bennett says two of the suspects were arrested right after the crash. An off-duty officer stopped to help when a third suspect jumped into the officer's car and drove off.

"That car was trying to get out of trouble, so [the suspect] was going fast, and that officer was right next to the door the whole way," said Michael Freye, a mechanic at an auto shop on Chicago Drive.

That person was arrested in a nearby cemetery. The fourth suspect was located along Paw Paw Drive south of business loop I-196. All four suspects are now in custody.

Police said the suspects all show addresses from the City of Grand Rapids, and detectives are working with law enforcement in determining the suspect's criminal involvements in other crimes.

According to Bennett, deputies found stolen cell phones in the vehicle. A Holland cell phone store was burglarized earlier Tuesday morning, Bennett said, and police believe the vehicle may have been involved.

The three suspects whose names have been released have been charged with breaking and entering of the cellphone store and their bonds range from $5,000 to $25,000.

Bennett says investigators are unsure of what connection this incident has to other cell phone store break-ins in Ottawa and Kent counties in recent weeks.

"We think these cell phone stores are a part of a larger group, [and] this may just be one portion of that particular group," he said.
