William Williams and Wilma Edwards have entered guilty pleas in the abuse of a 13-year-old girl.

KENT COUNTY, Mich. — A Kent County couple accused of tying a 13-year-old girl to her bed at night will soon learn their sentence in court.

Court documents filed in the case claim the girl's guardian and her boyfriend would both tie the girl to her bed each night with ratchet straps to prevent her from getting out of bed back in August 2022.

William Williams pleaded no contest to torture, unlawful imprisonment and two counts of first-degree child abuse on Monday.

He will be sentenced next month. He was dating the teen's mother at the time of the abuse, authorities said.

The girl's guardian, Wilma Edwards, previously pleaded guilty to two counts of child abuse. She's due in court next week for a sentencing hearing.

Authorities said an investigation was launched into a child abuse case when a local hospital flagged a 13-year-old girl suffering from severe malnourishment and physical injuries.

Child Protective Services (CPS) claims the abuse happened at a home in the 100 block of Fontana Street SE.
